Student leader Dadu (Sunny Kaushal), in love with Jhulan (Nashrat Bharucha), feels deep in the agitation created by following the recommendations of the Mandal Commission. The story of the film revolves around what happens when Dadu's romance with Jhulan is influenced by his role as a student leader.
Due to caste and class divisions, there is no time like today to make a conscientious and thorough research film on student politics of the 1990s. But when one tries to make a film around this important subject, without gnashing one's teeth at the subject, the events that take place at that time, and the scene behind the important events of that time, the result is directed by Nikhal Nagesh Bhatt. Looks like Harding.
Spread over a 122-minute runtime, the film sets a love story against the backdrop of student protests in Allahabad (now Prayag Raj) in 1990 against the implementation of the Mandal Commission report. Neither the background has been researched nor has it been well portrayed nor has the love story been presented in such a way that it shakes you inside.
Although the actors have done their job well, they could only go as far as writing. The fact that an artist like Vijay Verma did not have a solid role to play, an arc or Nusrat for the exhibition and Sunni did not have enough to elevate his performance, is hard to miss. Problems like the continuous leaps in the film and the lingo that changes every few seconds stand like a thumb of a wound.
If this issue had been well researched in the background and used better visually and otherwise, the film would not only be more layered in its perspective, but also in the characters, deep conflicts and strong Resolutions, including some humor. And a message that will go a long way in the country today.
Despite the best intentions of all, and the blessings of saving, also known as the efforts of the actors, trying to bring life into a different, meaningless drama, from the field of film writing to the finale. Even the product you receive seems to fail. This, when it had the potential to become something bigger.
